Two Ties poster by Jim Dine (Boymans Museum, 1971)

We love this poster, printed in 1971, oozing with character. The image of two ties is quintessentially Jim Dine. One of the most important artists of post-war USA, Dine is concerned with the poetry of everyday objects: boots, braids, tools, ties - how we read them, and how we connect to them emotionally. 

Born in 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dine moved to New York in 1959 where he became a pioneer of the Happenings movement together with Allan Kaprow, Claes Oldenburg and Robert Whitman. Closely associated with the development of Pop art in the early 1960s, Dine diverged from the coldness and impersonal nature of Pop by making work about the personal and the quotidian. His work has been celebrated down the decades, with major retrospectives at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Guggenheim in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
