Braid second state poster by Jim Dine (Galerie Kornfeld, Zurich, 1974)

£75.00

Artist: Jim Dine

This lovely long and thin poster was created for a Jim Dine show at Galerie Kornfeld in Zurich in 1974. Dine is one of the most important artists of post-war USA, and this image represents a key chunk of his output. Here is the poetry of the everyday: the beauty and the detailed imperfections of a simple braid, or plait.

Dine was born in 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, moving to New York in 1959 where he  became a pioneer of the Happenings movement together with Allan Kaprow, Claes Oldenburg and Robert Whitman. Closely associated with the development of Pop art in the early 1960s, Dine diverged from the coldness and impersonal nature of Pop by making work about the personal and the quotidian. His work has been celebrated down the decades, with major retrospectives at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Guggenheim in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Approximate dimensions: 33.7 x 101 cm
