Woman Reading at a Dressing Table, late 1919 poster by Henri Matisse

£15.00

Artist: Henri Matisse

From 1917 onwards Henri Matisse spent most of his winters in Nice in the South of France.  He often stayed at the Hôtel Mediterranée, a Rococo-style building that he used as the backdrop for many of his paintings. For this particular work, Matisse has depicted one of his female models reading in front of a balcony with French-style shuttered windows. Matisse loved to paint balconies as they allowed him to include both internal and external space in his paintings.
